As the first teacher preparation and initial licensure program of its kind to earn approval with distinction from the Massachusetts Department of Education, our M.A. in Teaching enables candidates to become effective, long-term teachers in urban settings. Program Overview
Our intensive program 鈥� which runs for one year from May to May 鈥� includes full immersion at one of five partner schools in Main South Worcester. You will learn from a team of scholar-practitioners dedicated to transforming urban education.
State Recognition: 鈥楢pproval With Distinction鈥�
The 顶级国产视频 Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program has been granted 鈥渁pproval with distinction鈥� by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. 鈥淎pproval with distinction鈥� is the highest level of approval granted by the state.
In granting 鈥渁pproval with distinction,鈥� the commissioner of elementary and secondary education noted:

A sponsoring organization or program granted approval with distinction has exceeded the already high bar for approval and has demonstrated exemplary performance. The sponsoring organization or program is operating at such a high level that it could serve as a model for other providers in the state and nation. 顶级国产视频鈥檚 MAT program has the added distinction of being the first program in Massachusetts to achieve the highest level of approval.
To earn this distinction, 顶级国产视频鈥檚 program underwent a rigorous and comprehensive approval process over a period of 16 months that included a three-day site visit. The process examined the program through various lenses, including school partnerships, instruction, field-based experiences, candidate experience, and organization. The on-site visiting team used surveys and interviews with a variety of stakeholders, including school personnel, current students, and alumni, in making its assessment.
Where, according to state personnel, most programs in the state earn two or three commendations in this process, 顶级国产视频鈥檚 program received 17.
National Recognition
Nationally, the MAT program has been at the forefront of change in teacher education. The Adam Institute鈥檚 recent book 鈥� 鈥淧artnership and Powerful Teacher Education: Growth and Challenge in an Urban Neighborhood Program鈥� 鈥� traces the development of the program toward a more neighborhood-based (or community-based) as well as partnership-based model, and delves into the clinical and collaborative learning practices that have evolved. The book has received critical endorsements from leading scholars in teacher education.
The program鈥檚 Teacher Rounds model was cited in the 2010 report by the National Council of Accreditation for Teacher Education advocating a more practice-based or 鈥渃linical鈥� approach to teacher education. In 2007, the Society of Education Professors recognized the program with the annual Richard Wisniewski Award for innovation in teacher education. The program was mentioned in Linda Darling-Hammond鈥檚 book, 鈥淭he Flat World and Education鈥� (2010):

I have found that the MAT program provided me with the tools that I needed to be a great teacher. 鈥淚 got a job at the Goddard School of Science and Technology (where I did my MAT student teaching), and I have been there since. I have been teaching at Goddard now for ongoing 5 years switching in between grades 4 and 5, and I serve on my school’s Internal Leadership Team. 鈥淚 don’t think I fully appreciated how much the MAT program did for me until my first year on my own. There is a lot to be said for already having a full year of teaching experience under my belt thanks to the yearlong practicum I had at Jacob Hiatt. The Ways of Knowing Courses left me feeling confident that I could turn any lesson into something that would be engaging, productive, and appropriate for my students.
